Jamtara College, Jamtara is the hub of education for the students from Jharkhand and West Bengal due to its geographical position at the border of the said two states. Particularly it caters to fulfilling the ambition of those who opt for science at graduation level. Students throng upon this institution from long distance falling within radius of 50 kms.
The college started its journey with sincere effort of few responsible and dedicated citizens of the subdivision Jamtara with the district headquarter at Dumka in the year 1961. Undaunted by existing deficient resources, they started this college in a very small private house and for some years it was also run in the JBC School, Jamtara. Finally the continuous effort of such dedicated people the college got its own building donated by legal heirs of Hetampur Estate of Burdawan district, West Bengal.
